The Royal Mile

Updated: May 17, 2020

The Royal Mile is a nickname to the main street of Edinburgh's old town. The Royal Mile stretched from Edinburgh Castle up the hill down to Holyrood Palace. Due to its unique geological structure, the royal mile has streets and alleys going down both sides of the road. They are called Closes (streets that used to have gates) and Wynds. Today the street is very colorful, full of Museums, tourist shops, restaurants, pubs, and other visitors' attractions. Lots of travel agencies have kind of street offices here, and you can always hear the bagpipes play.
